Shino Takeda is New York-based ceramicist who grew up on Kyushu Island in southern Japan, known for a rich history of ceramics and the arts. When she was young, Shino traveled all around Japan to look at different art shows and visit ceramic artist studios with her mom-an avid collector of both. Her work is an appropriation of those more traditional Japanese art forms mixed with all the freshness of NYC today.
Shino loves the organic imperfect shape of each piece formed by hand. She uses red, pink or black clay with a layer of glaze to create the perfect balance and layers of color. The result is a functional work of art—pieces that are sculptural yet practical, infused with a dose of rustic elegance. These beautiful ceramics will become treasured additions to your collection of home essentials.
