Yuko Nishikawa is a ceramic artist and an industrial designer based in Brooklyn, NY. Yuko makes ceramics in her Brooklyn studio where each piece is formed and finished by hand. Her obsession with developing her own glaze formulations allows her to build each object’s personality with textures even in the subtlest color palette. Surfaces are glazed and molded to provide you with a variety of tactile sensations from dry rock to wet wax to human flesh.
She is an industrial designer who has created award-winning products for Donghia, Inc. Her work for Donghia includes collection of lighting, tables, mirrors and seating as well selected artworks. Growing up in Japan she spent her summers in a ceramic studio in Sendai where her grandmother taught pottery. With extensive experience in craft and design Yuko taught herself how to throw on a wheel and formulate her own glaze recipe. Her ceramic vessels are beautiful in simplicity and function.
